$3.2m · Pre-Seed · Transportation · Munich, Germany
5U AI has raised a $3.2 million pre-seed round led by Emerge Capital to develop its digital workforce platform and expand across the European freight market. The Munich company says the capital will fund product development, its European go-to-market programme and hiring across product, engineering, operations, commercial and customer-facing roles.
The startup builds AI workers for operational tasks across air, sea and road freight. Its software handles quoting, bookings, shipment tracking, invoice reconciliation, data entry and routine administration inside the systems freight teams already use. Rather than treating each job as an isolated automation, 5U AI says its Context Layer records how an AI worker reached a decision, giving operators a trail they can inspect and reuse.
Turning operational exceptions into a product
Freight forwarding is difficult to automate because much of the work sits between systems. Transport-management software holds shipment records, while operators still move information through emails, documents, rate sheets, carrier portals and calls. Emerge’s investment note describes a workflow in which quotes, status updates, shipping documents and invoice checks are repeatedly assembled across those channels.
That makes 5U AI’s commercial proposition broader than saving time on one task. If the system can capture company-specific procedures and the reasoning used for recurring exceptions, each deployment can build an operational knowledge base rather than only adding another interface. The investor says the company pitched industry operators who became customers and then wanted to invest, though that remains Emerge’s account of early demand.
The company says its software is already live with freight forwarders and carriers across Europe, including TCI International Logistics across air and ocean operations. Those deployments provide a practical test of whether the same product can work across different modes, customers and operating procedures without becoming a bespoke services project.
From pilots to repeatable deployment
5U AI was founded in 2025 by Technical University of Munich graduates Yagiz Abik and Fehmi Şener. The company says it is backed by former senior executives from DHL, GEODIS, DSV, Maersk and Ceva Logistics, adding domain experience around the round led by Emerge.
The next milestone is repeatability. Freight teams need automation that fits existing transport-management, inbox and document workflows while escalating genuine exceptions to people. If 5U AI can shorten onboarding and preserve clear decision trails as it moves between customers, the product can scale knowledge alongside capacity. If every customer requires extensive custom handling, growth will pull engineering and operations headcount with it.
