AERLIN, a Berlin aviation startup developing a flying-wing aircraft, has closed an undisclosed seed round led by eFUEL GROUP. IBB Ventures, private investors and members of the Business Angel Club Berlin-Brandenburg also participated.
The company will use the capital to advance its first production product and build a crewed prototype. AERLIN's initial plan is a two-seat ultralight sport aircraft with a wingspan of approximately 12 metres, aimed at private pilots, flight schools and air sports clubs.
Founded in 2025, AERLIN is developing an aircraft architecture in which the wing and fuselage merge into a single aerodynamic unit. It says reducing drag could lower the energy required for flight. IBB Ventures reports that the team has already tested the concept with a flight-capable model.
A crewed prototype moves the risk from concept to execution
A small flying model can demonstrate that AERLIN's aerodynamic idea is viable, but a crewed ultralight introduces a much broader engineering task. The team must preserve the efficiency benefits while meeting structural, control, safety and certification requirements at full scale. The seed round therefore funds a transition from proof of concept to an aircraft that target customers can evaluate in realistic use.
The first market is deliberately narrower than commercial aviation. Flight schools, clubs and private pilots give AERLIN a route to test performance, operating cost and maintainability without first solving the demands of a passenger airliner. eFUEL GROUP also brings a strategic link to synthetic aviation fuels, but AERLIN's near-term advantage still has to come from the airframe: lower energy demand must translate into a practical aircraft, not only an aerodynamic claim.
