$56m · Other round · Healthtech · Barcelona, Spain
Anaconda Biomed, a Barcelona-based medical-device company developing thrombectomy catheters for stroke treatment, has closed $56m in financing. Omega Funds led the round, joined by new investor Spain's Co-investment Fund, managed by COFIDES, with continued participation from Asabys, Ysios Capital and CDTI. The proceeds will support product development, global regulatory work and completion of the 327-patient ATHENA pivotal IDE study of the ANA Funnel Catheter.
The ANA5 Funnel Catheter is CE-marked in Europe and remains investigational in the United States.
Clinical evidence and manufacturing control have to scale together
Stroke-device companies face two linked risks: proving that a catheter improves outcomes and producing it consistently enough for wider use. Anaconda’s funnel design combines aspiration with flow arrest and reversal to capture clot fragments during thrombectomy. The ATHENA study is therefore more than a regulatory checkpoint; it must show whether that engineering translates into safer, more complete reperfusion in clinical practice.
Anaconda also operates a production facility near Barcelona, giving it direct control over development and manufacturing. That can shorten iteration cycles as trial evidence feeds back into the product, but it adds execution demands before approvals and commercial scale. The financing gives the company room to advance both tracks without treating manufacturing readiness as a post-trial problem.
