Brussels, Belgium · Foodtech · Pre-seed · €4m · Announced 3 September 2026
Backbone, which builds software for food quality and compliance teams, has raised €4m in pre-seed funding. Pitchdrive led the round, joined by PROfounders Capital, Passion Capital and existing investor 100IN. Tech.eu reports participation from food industry investors including Agristo and Darta, with funding intended for product development, commercial expansion and partnerships.
Making quality information usable
Supplier documents, laboratory results and production requirements can sit in separate systems. Backbone aims to connect that information. Our read: adoption will depend on how well the product fits the people responsible for checking it, resolving exceptions and approving changes. EUVC’s recent REHAU discussion offers a useful parallel on assigning ownership and supporting AI use inside established organisations.

Distribution through industry relationships
Backbone’s planned work with certification bodies and ERP implementation partners gives this round a concrete commercial question: can those relationships help the software become part of routine quality work? We would look for evidence of sustained use across suppliers, factories and quality teams as the business expands.
