$140m · Series C · Healthtech · London, UK
London-based Basecamp Research has raised $140m in an oversubscribed Series C led by S32. Participants include Anthropic's Anthology Fund, Catalio Capital Management, European Tech Collective, Firebrand River Capital, Inception Fund, King Philanthropies, NATO Innovation Fund, NVIDIA, PostScriptum, Redalpine, The Rockefeller Foundation, Singular, Sovereign AI and True Ventures.
Basecamp combines AI models trained on proprietary biological data with technology for writing DNA sequences into cells. The company will use the financing to train a new generation of its EDEN models and move a pipeline of AI-designed therapeutics toward clinical development, initially focusing on in vivo cell therapy. It also plans to expand pharmaceutical partnerships.
From biological models to owned medicines
Basecamp's strategy is moving beyond supplying research tools: it is using its models to design therapeutic programmes it intends to advance. That raises the potential value of successful discoveries, but it also brings the cost, timelines and clinical risk of drug development onto the company's own balance sheet.
The round gives Basecamp resources to test whether its proprietary biological data can translate into therapies with advantages that matter in preclinical and clinical development. Early programmes must now demonstrate that model-designed sequences can be delivered safely and produce repeatable biological effects, while partnerships can provide external validation before the pipeline reaches patients.
