$2m · Seed · Media · Berlin, Germany
Berlin-based beatsquares, which turns existing editorial and communications material into audience-specific formats, has closed $2m in seed funding. IBB Ventures and XTR Capital co-led the round, with participation from ddvg, V-Ventures and business angels. The company says the capital will expand its team, advance the product and support international growth.
Turning one newsroom asset into many audience products
beatsquares sells an AI operating layer to publishers, communications teams and brands. Its agents take trusted source material and adapt it into newsletters, podcasts, WhatsApp channels, social posts and on-site formats, then distribute those outputs for different audiences. The company names Süddeutsche Zeitung, Tagesspiegel and Messe Berlin among its early customers. In one deployment, it created a four-language daily podcast for ITB Berlin from an existing newsletter; the company said the briefing served an event expecting more than 100,000 attendees.
The commercial proposition is not simply cheaper content generation. Publishers already own reporting, archives and specialist knowledge, but repackaging each asset for several channels requires editorial labour and channel-specific expertise. A system that can reuse the same verified source across formats may let a customer launch more owned products without staffing a separate production team for each one. That gives beatsquares a route into recurring workflows rather than one-off campaign work.
The constraint is editorial control. Each extra channel creates another opportunity for context, tone or factual detail to drift from the source. Customers will therefore judge the platform on whether its verification, review and approval steps remain dependable as output volume rises. If teams still have to recheck every adaptation from scratch, the labour saving narrows; if controls travel with the content, broader distribution can compound the value of work the newsroom has already paid to produce.
Funding the operating system around distribution
IBB Ventures says the team combines media access with first-hand editorial and product experience. Founder René Bosch previously served as deputy editor-in-chief of BILD, Mark Page worked in consulting and company building, and Peter Dyllick-Brenzinger held product and engineering roles in publishing software. That background matters because international expansion will involve more than translation: formats, workflows and audience habits differ across publishers and markets.
The seed round follows a $500,000 pre-seed financing in October 2024. The next proof point is whether beatsquares can make deployment repeatable across organisations while keeping each customer's editorial standards and brand voice intact. Team growth and product development address that challenge directly, but distribution scale will only become a durable advantage if the system preserves trust as it produces more formats from the same underlying work.
