€1.5m · Seed · Cleantech · Valencia, Spain
Valencia-based BZERO Materials has raised an oversubscribed €1.5m Seed round led by Ship2B Ventures. CTL Investments and Torribas returned, while Viscofan and Impact Shakers Ventures joined as new investors. The round brings total funding since the company was founded in 2021 to €2.5m.
Taking thin compostable film from pilots to production
BZERO develops thermoplastic-starch film intended to replace low-density polyethylene in applications such as bags, labels, food nets and flexible packaging. The company says its film can be produced at seven microns while retaining the mechanical strength required for those uses.
The funding will expand production capacity, support pilots with food-packaging companies and continue formulation work. The commercial challenge is not only proving that the material composts: converters and brands also need stable performance on existing equipment and a cost profile that can compete with conventional film. Viscofan’s participation adds an industrial customer perspective to that scale-up test.
