€13.5m · Other round · Software · Milan, Italy
Milan-based Complaion has raised €13.5m in a funding round co-led by Eurazeo and Italian Founders Fund. Shapers, 2100 Ventures, KFund, Sella Direct Ventures, Enzo Ventures, Vento, Ithaca, Eden Ventures and Vesper also participated, according to Forbes Italia. The capital will support hiring, product development, customer service and expansion across Europe.
Complaion combines a software platform with certified lead auditors to help smaller businesses secure and maintain ISO certifications and manage obligations including NIS2 and GDPR. Its website says the platform automates 80% of the certification journey while specialists handle the remaining judgement-heavy work. The company says this can cut certification timelines by as much as five times.
Turning compliance evidence into operating infrastructure
The useful product is not simply faster form-filling. ISO certification requires policies, procedures, evidence and recurring audits; for an SME without an internal compliance team, that work is usually scattered across consultants, documents and staff. Complaion's model brings those artefacts into one system while keeping an auditor inside the workflow. Automation can reduce repetitive drafting and evidence collection, but certification still depends on context, quality control and an accredited external audit.
The commercial mechanism is a mix of recurring need and expansion. Once a company has organised evidence for one standard, the same operating record can support renewals and adjacent requirements such as information security, environmental management or cybersecurity. Italian Founders Fund describes this as a land-and-expand opportunity: a first ISO engagement can open into a broader compliance relationship. The dependency is execution. Complaion must scale its expert capacity and local regulatory knowledge alongside the software, or the human layer that differentiates the service could become its bottleneck.
From an Italian base to a European market
Complaion says it has already certified more than 900 companies. Forbes Italia reports more than 1,000 completed audits, a team of over 40 people and customers in more than ten countries. Spain is its first expansion market outside Italy.
The company emerged after founders Edoardo Tarricone and Marco Cortinovis abandoned an earlier fractional-ownership startup idea. In Italian Founders Fund's account, their experience running Katoo's Italian business shaped the operational focus, while CTO Alessandro Vaccarino joined the new compliance venture. The round now tests whether that combination of software and service can travel across jurisdictions without losing the speed it promises SMEs.
