€3.1m · Other round · Healthtech · Barcelona, Spain
CONNECTA Therapeutics, a Barcelona-based clinical-stage biotech developing treatments for central nervous system disorders, has closed a €3.1m financing led by new investor Clave Capital through its Innvierte Science Tech Clave Innohealth fund. Existing investors Inveready, CDTI Innvierte and Prous Institute for Biomedical Research also participated.
The capital will support completion of the company's ongoing Phase IIa trial of CTH120 in adult males with Fragile X syndrome. CONNECTA expects topline data in mid-2027.
CTH120 is a small-molecule neuroplasticity modulator intended to address the biology underlying Fragile X rather than only its symptoms. The 30-patient study is assessing safety, tolerability and effectiveness at Hospital del Mar Research Institute and Parc Taulí, alongside biomarker research with the Centre for Genomic Regulation. CONNECTA describes CTH120 as a potential first-in-class treatment; that remains a company claim pending clinical evidence.
The next financing case will be built on clinical data
For a clinical-stage biotech, this financing is less about commercial expansion than reaching a sharper evidence milestone. CONNECTA has already moved CTH120 through Phase I safety work and into patients with Fragile X. Completing Phase IIa can show whether the programme's neuroplasticity thesis produces a measurable signal in the target population, not just whether the molecule is tolerated.
That makes the mid-2027 readout the key value inflection point. Credible safety, biomarker and effectiveness data could strengthen CONNECTA's hand in a partnership or larger clinical financing; an ambiguous result would make the next development step harder to fund. The €3.1m round therefore buys progress towards evidence that can change the programme's risk profile rather than simply extending the same research plan.
