Bathgate-based CSignum has completed a £2.6m funding round backed by Archangels, PXN Ventures, Scottish Enterprise, the British Business Bank and US angel investors. The company also appointed John Nicholls as chief executive, with Jonathan Reeves moving to chief strategy officer.
CSignum's EM2 products use electromagnetic field signalling to transmit sensor data through water, ice, soil, rock and concrete without conventional cabling. The financing will support commercial expansion and manufacturing scale-up as the company moves from pilots into volume deployments with UK water utilities and international customers.
Connecting sensors where radio and cables struggle
Monitoring underwater or buried infrastructure often requires cables, surface buoys or manual retrieval, which raises installation and maintenance costs. CSignum's technology is designed to provide a wireless link across the boundary between submerged or underground sensors and systems above the surface.
The follow-on round is about repeatable deployment rather than proving the underlying signal alone. CSignum must scale manufacturing, maintain reliable performance across difficult environments and turn regulatory demand for continuous water-quality monitoring into durable utility contracts.
