$5m · Other round · Software · Cape Town, South Africa
Cape Town-headquartered Cue has raised $5m in a primary funding round co-led by Knife Capital and FAM Investments. The customer-service software company will invest in AI-agent development, international expansion, voice, security and enterprise integrations.
One operating layer across customer channels
Cue brings WhatsApp, email, web chat, Messenger and phone interactions into one workspace. Service teams can route conversations, retain a shared customer history and use flows or AI agents to handle routine requests before handing cases to a person. The product is aimed at growing businesses whose service volume has outgrown separate inboxes and channel-specific tools.
The commercial mechanism is consolidation. Cue charges businesses for a shared service operation, with higher plans adding automation, AI resolutions, integrations and enterprise controls. Each additional channel makes the common customer record and routing layer more useful, while integrations determine whether an agent can resolve an issue rather than merely answer a question.
Autonomy depends on integration and trust
Cue says more than 500 companies across the UK and South Africa use the platform, annual recurring revenue grew by more than 160% in its latest financial year, and the system handles more than 500 million messages and conversations a year. Those are company-reported figures, but they show why voice and enterprise connections matter: growth increases both the volume agents can absorb and the consequences of a wrong action.
The funding therefore supports more than model development. Autonomous service requires approved knowledge, reliable access to customer and order systems, security controls and a clean human handoff when judgement is needed. Cue can scale efficiently if those components become repeatable across customers; if each deployment needs extensive custom integration, services work will rise with revenue and weaken the software economics.
