Custodea, an AI data platform for European SMEs, has raised €350,000 in seed funding from investors in its network. The Utrecht-based company brings accounting, CRM, HR and other business data into a private EU-hosted data lake. Custodea says the capital will support product development, more software integrations and initial expansion across the Netherlands, Belgium and Scandinavia.
Why the data layer comes before the AI layer
Custodea is targeting a practical constraint on SME adoption of analytics and AI: the underlying information is often split across systems bought for separate functions. Its read-only connectors continuously copy those records into one controlled environment, so customers can use familiar tools such as Excel and Power BI, or point AI agents at the same dataset without replacing their operating software.
That design can reduce the cost and disruption of becoming AI-ready, while EU-only hosting addresses buyers that care about data residency and control. The commercial test is connector coverage: the platform becomes more useful as it supports more of an SME’s existing stack, making Custodea’s plan to spend the round on integrations central to adoption rather than an ancillary product task.
