Dougs has raised a €50m investment from Expedition Growth Capital to expand its accounting and financial-management platform for small businesses. The Lyon-based company said the capital will fund further AI and automation work, broaden the product and support growth in France, including a local partner network.
Founded in 2015, Dougs combines its own software with regulated accounting services. Customers connect bank accounts and business tools to the platform, which classifies transactions and supports bookkeeping, tax declarations, invoicing and financial monitoring. Dougs remains responsible for the customer relationship and service rather than supplying software to a separate accounting firm.
Automating the work, retaining professional judgement
The commercial logic is to automate repeatable accounting work while keeping a chartered accountant in the loop for review and sign-off. Expedition says Dougs has built AI-assisted bookkeeping workflows and is developing agents that prepare financial statements for professional validation. That distinction matters in a regulated service: software can handle more of the production process, but responsibility for the finished accounts remains with a qualified professional.
Dougs sells the service by subscription and is aimed mainly at very small companies. Journal du Net reports that its typical customers have no more than five employees. Automation should let each accountant support more clients and give those clients faster access to current financial information, but the product still has to maintain accuracy and service quality as its customer base grows.
The company and investor say Dougs now serves more than 50,000 businesses, has passed €50m in annual recurring revenue and is growing by more than 50% a year. Expedition also says the business has been profitable since inception and was self-funded until its first institutional round in 2023. Those are company and investor figures rather than independently audited disclosures.
Adding local delivery to a digital model
The new capital follows the €25m investment Dougs announced in 2023. Its next target, according to Expedition, is €100m in annual recurring revenue and 100,000 customers. Dougs plans to add AI assistants, deepen automation and expand the product beyond core bookkeeping.
It is also adding a physical layer to a digital service. Journal du Net reports that Dougs intends to introduce in-person support through local partners from 2027 and to grow its workforce from roughly 800 to 1,000 people. The combination could widen distribution among small-business owners who want software efficiency but still value a nearby adviser. Execution will hinge on whether Dougs can scale that human network without weakening the consistency and economics of the platform.
