Amsterdam-based Eevi has raised an undisclosed pre-seed round led by Rockstart. The voice-first AI language tutor was founded by Filemon Schöffer and Jago Gazendam after nearly a year of bootstrapping.
Eevi centres lessons on real-time spoken conversation rather than tap-and-swipe vocabulary exercises. Its curriculum draws on more than 15 academic language-learning frameworks and adapts the pace and content to each learner. The financing will support the product's public launch and scaling over the next 12 months, initially targeting international professionals.
Moving practice from recognition to conversation
Language apps can build vocabulary recognition without giving learners confidence to speak. Eevi is trying to make conversation the primary interface, combining a structured curriculum with a persistent learner memory that adjusts difficulty and topics.
The pre-seed round gives the team time to prove that voice interaction improves retention and real-world fluency, not just engagement. Eevi must also control inference costs and deliver accurate feedback across languages while competing with established apps and general-purpose AI assistants.
