€5.1m · Other round · Sports · Grenoble, France
ENGO, a French maker of augmented-reality sports glasses, has raised €5.1m in new funding from Ventech, Odyssée Venture and Bpifrance Amorçage Industriel. According to the funding announcement, the capital will support commercial and industrial development, international expansion and R&D in display miniaturisation. ENGO also plans to hire 20 people in France across marketing, sales, optics, mechanical engineering, software and data.
Turning a watch glance into an in-lens workflow
ENGO builds glasses for runners, cyclists, triathletes and other endurance athletes that project live performance data into the wearer's field of view. Its current product page says the engo2 Photochromic weighs 36 grams, runs for up to 12 hours and can show more than 40 metrics, including pace, heart rate, power and cadence. The display connects to compatible Garmin devices, Apple Watch, iOS and Android rather than requiring athletes to replace their existing training sensors.
That compatibility is the core commercial mechanism. ENGO can sell a specialised display layer into an ecosystem of watches, cycling computers and training apps that customers already use. Athletes keep the data source and workflow they know; ENGO moves the most important metrics from a wrist or handlebar into the line of sight. The model reduces the adoption burden of a closed hardware stack, but it makes continued integration support across third-party devices part of the product promise.
The company says 90% of its revenue already comes from outside France, with half generated in the United States. Transaction adviser Aurys says ENGO has nearly 15,000 users. Those figures are company and adviser claims, but they explain why the round combines product engineering with commercial hiring: ENGO is funding both a lighter device and the distribution needed to sell it internationally.
Miniaturisation is the product roadmap
ENGO was spun out of MicroOLED's consumer activity, according to Aurys, giving the company a technical base in compact display systems. Its glasses use a MicroOLED head-up display, and the financing announcement frames lower weight, improved energy efficiency and optical integration as the next R&D priorities. For endurance athletes, those are not cosmetic specifications: every gram and hour of battery life affects whether a display is useful across a long training session or race.
The execution challenge is therefore tightly defined. ENGO must keep shrinking the visible and physical footprint of its technology while supporting a broad device ecosystem and scaling French design and assembly. The new capital gives it room to work on those constraints alongside international partnerships and hiring, rather than treating smart eyewear as a software-only category.
