Zurich-based Epalero has raised undisclosed funding from Klett Group to develop its recruitment platform for schools and teachers and expand across Switzerland. Klett announced the investment on 28 October.
Matching schools with available teachers
Epalero lets schools publish permanent roles and short-notice substitute assignments through one platform. Teachers receive alerts through the app and other channels and can apply with a small number of steps, reducing the phone calls, spreadsheets and fragmented job boards that school leaders often use to fill gaps.
The product addresses two related constraints: a structural shortage of teaching staff and the operational cost of responding when a classroom suddenly needs cover. A broader pool and faster notification can improve the chance of filling a role, but the platform also needs accurate availability and enough local density to be useful at short notice.
Expansion depends on regional network effects
Epalero was founded in 2022 by Samuel Thalmann and Alicia Rüegg. Klett’s education footprint can help the startup reach schools and teachers, while the new capital supports product development and national expansion.
The commercial test is whether the platform becomes a repeat workflow rather than an occasional vacancy board. Schools need reliable candidates and simple administration; teachers need relevant roles, transparent conditions and control over their availability. If both sides return regularly, Epalero can build regional network effects. Expanding too quickly without enough supply in each area would weaken that proposition.
