£19.5m · Series A · Fintech · London, UK
London-based Hyperlayer has raised £19.5m in Series A2 financing to help banks modernise products without replacing their core systems. Finextra reports that existing investor Flintlock Capital led the follow-on round, joined by Mouro Capital and Susquehanna Private Equity Investments. The financing values Hyperlayer at £195m post-money and takes total funding since October 2025 to nearly £50m. The company plans to expand product, engineering and implementation teams and support growth across the US, Europe and Asia-Pacific.
An overlay changes the bank-modernisation trade-off
Core banking systems hold customer records, balances and controls that institutions cannot casually replace. Hyperlayer positions its platform above that infrastructure, giving banks modular components for accounts, limits, rewards and rules. The company says products can be defined in plain language, assembled from reusable blocks and executed in real time, while the underlying core and its compliance processes remain in place. Customers can deploy the platform in their own data centres, in their cloud environment or as a hosted service.
The commercial promise is speed without a full migration, but the implementation burden does not disappear. Hyperlayer still has to connect reliably to each institution's data, transaction and control environment, then show that configured products behave consistently under regulatory and operational scrutiny. Building the implementation team alongside engineering is therefore material: repeatable connectors, governance and deployment methods determine whether the company can scale as a software platform or becomes dependent on long custom projects.
Follow-on capital tests repeatability
Hyperlayer was founded in 2023 by former Morgan Stanley colleagues Rob Rooney and Paul Rolles. In October 2025, it raised £30m to expand product and engineering and support international growth. At the time, the company said it was working with global Tier 1 banks on account features, rewards, loyalty and wealth-management tools. The new announcement says those relationships have progressed to mandates with global Tier 1 institutions, although named customers and deployment volumes were not disclosed.
Flintlock co-founder Joe Shamess will join the board, while Louise Chan moves from chief operating officer to chief commercial officer and Ben Helps becomes chief operating officer. That pairing reflects the next operating challenge: converting complex bank deployments into a repeatable sales and delivery motion. Expansion across three regions will widen the opportunity, but it also raises the cost of supporting different core systems, security requirements and regulatory environments. Evidence of faster implementations, broader product usage and renewals will matter more than the valuation alone.
