€100m · Series B · Cybersecurity, Defence · Munich area, Germany
British-German defence company Hypersonica has raised €100m in Series B funding, co-led by Lightspeed and General Catalyst, with continued participation from Plural, 201 Ventures and Germany’s Federal Agency for Breakthrough Innovation, SPRIND. The financing will accelerate deep-strike system development, increase testing cadence and expand European operations and manufacturing.
Hypersonic development moves from demonstration to delivery
Hypersonica is developing manoeuvrable, long-range systems intended to travel above Mach 5 while remaining under European ownership and control. The company positions the product as an ITAR-free capability for European allies, making sovereign supply, testing and manufacturing part of the commercial proposition alongside speed and range.
The round follows a February prototype flight in Norway. Hypersonica says its HS-1 exceeded Mach 6 over more than 300 kilometres, nine months after concept work began. That milestone reduces one category of technical risk, but a deployable system still requires repeated flight validation, guidance performance, manufacturing consistency and integration with government procurement programmes.
Public programmes shape the route to revenue
Hypersonica’s customers are governments and defence primes rather than commercial operators. That creates long sales cycles and strict qualification demands, but new UK-German and NATO deep-precision-strike programmes provide a defined procurement context. The Series B gives the company capacity to run more tests and build industrial capability before its stated 2029 development target, while the central execution question is whether prototype speed can translate into a reliable and affordable operational system.
