€7.2m · Other round · Agritech · Seville, Spain
InsectBiotech, which converts agricultural by-products into feed and soil inputs using black soldier fly larvae, has raised €7.2 million in financing. Arcano Asset Management invested €3.8 million through Impacto Andalucía Innovación y Desarrollo SICC, while a consortium of US investors supplied the remaining €3.4 million.
The Seville-headquartered agritech says the funding will support R&D, production expansion and a facility in Andalusia designed to process 7,500 tonnes of olive pomace and other agricultural waste each year.
Low-cost feedstock and energy are central to the model
InsectBiotech’s economics depend on sourcing abundant local residues and keeping energy costs under control. Co-founder and CEO Marco Aldaz told AgFunderNews that olive pomace can cost up to a quarter of a conventional wheat-based feed mix, while the company plans to cover 75% to 80% of the plant’s power needs with solar energy.
At full capacity, the facility is expected to produce around 1,300 tonnes of fresh larvae and 300 tonnes of high-protein meal annually. Target markets include aquaculture, swine, poultry and pet food, with insect oil also suitable for biodiesel and frass aimed at vineyards and berry growers.
The commercial test is converting early demand into repeat orders
Founded in 2023, the company says it has secured close to a dozen letters of intent from potential customers and long-term agreements for its feedstock. The next step is delivering the plant, targeted for the third quarter of 2027, and proving that those commitments translate into recurring industrial demand.
The financing gives InsectBiotech capital to move from pilot-stage validation toward commercial production. Its execution challenge is to commission the facility on time while maintaining consistent output, regulatory compliance and competitive unit costs across several end markets.
