€818k · Pre-Seed · Healthtech · Leipzig, Germany
Leipzig-based JawBuddy has raised €818k in pre-seed financing led by healthcare investment platform HALBZEIT. The package combines private investment with a Business Angel Bonus from Sächsische Aufbaubank and will fund clinical research and preparations for health-insurer reimbursement, according to the funding announcement.
The public-grant and private-investment split was not disclosed. Other backers include Mittelständische Beteiligungsgesellschaft Sachsen, two dental and maxillofacial specialists and four business angels.
Moving jaw exercises from advice into a repeatable programme
JawBuddy develops guided routines for people managing jaw tension, teeth grinding and craniomandibular dysfunction. Its app offers personalised exercises for use between appointments and uses the smartphone camera to track progress. The company distinguishes its consumer lifestyle app from JawBuddy Therapy, a forthcoming Class I medical-device product.
The customer problem is continuity. Jaw conditions can require repeated exercises and behaviour changes outside the clinic, but a dentist or physiotherapist cannot observe every session. Software can structure the routine, collect feedback and give clinicians a clearer record of what happens between visits. That turns a set of exercises into a product that can be delivered consistently at home.
JawBuddy plans a multicentre randomised controlled trial with 130 patients beginning in December 2026. The capital also supports negotiations for a care contract with a statutory health insurer. Those are linked milestones: stronger clinical evidence can support reimbursement, while reimbursement can shift the product from direct consumer spending towards a healthcare-funded route.
Evidence and reimbursement define the next market
The commercial opportunity depends on proving more than engagement. A medical version must show that guided use produces meaningful outcomes, fit regulatory requirements and integrate with care pathways. The planned trial will therefore test both the clinical proposition and the quality of evidence JawBuddy can present to insurers and healthcare partners.
If reimbursement follows, distribution could expand through dentists, clinicians and insurers rather than relying only on consumers discovering the app themselves. The execution risk is sequencing: JawBuddy must keep the consumer product useful while building the more controlled evidence, documentation and partnerships required for a reimbursed medical service.
