Laki Power has raised a €6m Series A led by the NATO Innovation Fund, its first investment in Iceland, with participation from ReykVC. The company builds self-powered devices that draw energy from live transmission lines to run cameras, sensors and communications equipment. The funding will support product development, hiring and expansion beyond Iceland.
Remote high-voltage lines need continuous observation for icing, wildfire risk and equipment performance, but installing a separate power supply for each sensor can be costly and unreliable. Laki Power’s PowerGRAB harvests electricity directly from the line, allowing utilities to deploy monitoring equipment where grid access and maintenance are difficult.
The commercial path depends on field reliability and utility procurement cycles. Laki Power says it already serves customers on four continents and has worked with Icelandic transmission operator Landsnet. The round gives it capital to add hardware, software, sales and marketing capacity; repeated deployments would expand both its installed base and the operational data available to utility customers.
