Oxford-based Mach42 has closed £7m in a pre-Series A round to expand its AI-driven analog circuit verification technology. The company announcement says IP Group led the financing, with existing investors BGF and Foresight Group participating. Mach42 plans to grow its engineering and business development teams and accelerate commercial adoption.
Verification becomes the bottleneck for AI-designed chips
Analog and mixed-signal circuits have to work across changes in temperature, voltage, manufacturing variation and operating conditions before a chip reaches fabrication. Mach42’s Discovery Platform works alongside established electronic-design-automation tools, sampling simulation data and training neural-network surrogate models that can search wider areas of a design space. The company says the platform can flag out-of-spec conditions and export models in formats used by standard simulators.
The commercial proposition is not to replace the physics simulator that semiconductor engineers already trust. It is to reduce how often that slower tool must be run while preserving a final simulator validation step. That matters because verification coverage and compute cost rise as designs become more complex. If Mach42 can widen coverage without forcing engineering teams to abandon existing workflows, it can sell time-to-market and design confidence rather than a standalone AI experiment.
Commercial adoption depends on fitting existing tools
Mach42 is initially concentrating on power-management devices and says it has demonstrated its modelling approach on large production designs. Its website also lists work across SerDes, oscillators and analog-to-digital converters, and a built-in connection with Cadence circuit-simulation software. Those integrations narrow the deployment gap, but the performance bar is high: verification tools must prove accuracy on customer designs and produce results engineers can trace before tape-out.
The round therefore funds two linked jobs. More engineering capacity can extend the models and integrations, while business development has to turn technical demonstrations into repeatable adoption inside semiconductor companies. IP Group’s investment case centres on shorter design cycles and greater verification coverage; the next milestone is whether Mach42 can convert those gains into production use across more customers without creating a bespoke modelling project for each design.
