€18.8m · Other round · Edtech · Barcelona, Spain
Milo, the preschool animation property owned by DeAPlaneta Entertainment, has secured an €18.8m public-private investment to expand from a television series into a broader international franchise. DeAPlaneta, the Spanish Society for Technological Transformation (SETT) and Amuse Animation formalised the alliance on 29 July. Cinco Días reported that SETT is investing €9.2m, while the full operation totals €18.8m.
The ministry statement reported by Cinco Días says a new company will exploit Milo’s rights across formats and territories. DeAPlaneta will contribute brand creation, distribution and rights management, while Amuse will participate in production of new episodes. The structure matters: this is financing for a specific entertainment property and its exploitation vehicle, not a conventional venture round into an independent software startup.
From television reach to a rights platform
Milo follows a curious cat and friends as they explore different professions through play. The series launched in the UK in 2021, and DeAPlaneta says it has since reached more than 170 countries and been dubbed into more than 20 languages. A third season is planned for 2027, giving the partners an existing distribution base rather than a brand that still has to prove it can travel.
The commercial logic is to turn that reach into several coordinated revenue channels. The partners’ roadmap covers new digital formats, gaming, live experiences, additional distribution windows, licensing and retail. Centralising those rights in a dedicated vehicle can make it easier to coordinate production, territorial licensing and consumer products around the same release calendar. That is an interpretation of the announced structure; the partners have not disclosed revenue targets or ownership percentages.
The test is demand beyond the screen
DeAPlaneta had already appointed Rainbow Designs to develop a global Milo toy line, with the first products planned for autumn/winter 2027. The €18.8m operation can fund more content and more ways to encounter the characters, but distribution across 170 countries does not by itself prove that families will buy toys, play games or attend live experiences. The value of the franchise will depend on those extensions reinforcing the core series instead of fragmenting it.
