€3.3m · Other round · Agritech · Noáin, Spain
Spanish biotechnology company MOA Foodtech has closed a €3.3m funding round with the EIC Fund, Swanlaab Innvierte Agri Food Tech and CDTI-Innvierte. The company said the capital will support commercial expansion, higher production volumes and a broader ingredient portfolio after validating its first products with food and pet-food manufacturers.
The round is separate from the full headline value of MOA’s earlier EIC Accelerator support. The European Innovation Council describes that package as a €2.3m grant plus an equity commitment of up to €12.5m, while the September financing is the newly announced €3.3m round.
From product validation to commercial supply
MOA combines biomass fermentation with Albatros, its proprietary computational platform for selecting microorganisms and process conditions for specific agri-food byproducts. CDTI says the platform turns those side streams into high-value microbial biomass, while MOA sells its own functional ingredients and co-develops products with industrial partners.
Its launched portfolio includes MOA Q5, an egg replacer and emulsifier, and MOA Yeast, an ingredient for nutritional enrichment. According to the funding announcement, both have been tested across multiple human-food and pet-food applications. The company now plans to support customer product launches, expand sales and add ingredients aimed at health and nutraceutical uses.
The near-term industrial milestone is a move from 120,000-litre to 225,000-litre bioreactors through production partners in Spain. That matters because the commercial question is no longer whether MOA can formulate ingredients at pilot scale, but whether it can supply consistent volumes as customers move from application trials into launches.
Partner-led scaling is the commercial test
MOA is also expanding a licensing model that lets industrial partners deploy its fermentation processes and use Albatros to develop new products. Using partners’ production infrastructure could widen capacity without forcing MOA to finance every fermentation asset itself, but execution will depend on transferring processes reliably and converting a stated customer pipeline into repeat orders.
The company’s official contact page places it in Noáin, Navarre. The EIC says its next phase includes taking a functional ingredient to industrial deployment, launching MOA Box for starch-rich byproduct valorisation and continuing selected co-development projects.
