Nearby Computing, the Barcelona company building software to manage applications across cloud and edge infrastructure, is receiving €680,000 from Spain’s SETT within a €1.4m public-private financing. The government announcement says the investment, made through the Next Tech facility, will support the company’s growth and digital infrastructure capabilities. Its software is designed to coordinate distributed systems independently of the underlying hardware or infrastructure supplier.

Making distributed computing cheaper to operate
Putting computing near a factory, energy asset or telecom network creates more locations at which software must be deployed and maintained. Nearby Computing’s vendor-independent approach targets the resulting operating burden. Reusing deployment and management procedures across sites can reduce the need to rebuild the same operational work for each installation.
That gives customers a reason to buy orchestration beyond the initial deployment: keeping distributed applications running as infrastructure changes. The government announcement emphasises continuity during connectivity or cloud interruptions. For Nearby Computing, the useful distinction is between demonstrating a resilient local application and making that resilience economical to maintain across a customer’s estate.
