€300m · Other round · Telecom · Harwell, UK
Open Cosmos, the Harwell-based satellite infrastructure company, has raised €300m in funding from a group led by European investors. Participants include Lightrock, ETF Partners, Institut Català de Finances, Entrepreneurs First and two international pension funds, alongside A&G Global Investors, Trill Impact, Phoenix Court, the UK's National Security Strategic Investment Fund, Convex and other backers.
The company will use the capital to expand satellite mass manufacturing and accelerate its ConnectedCosmos communications network, OpenConstellation shared Earth-observation system and DataCosmos intelligence platform. Open Cosmos designs, builds and operates satellite missions, then turns the resulting imagery and sensor data into services for governments and enterprises.
Open Cosmos says its four European factories can currently produce one satellite per day. It also reports five consecutive years of profitable growth and more than $370m in new contracts over the past three and a half years.
Owning the stack can turn satellite output into recurring services
Satellite constellations demand heavy upfront spending before they generate useful coverage. Open Cosmos couples manufacturing with shared communications and Earth-observation infrastructure, allowing several customers to use the same orbital assets instead of commissioning every mission independently. Higher factory throughput can shorten the path from contracted demand to orbit, while data and connectivity services add recurring revenue beyond the hardware build.
The commercial test is utilisation across the full system. Producing one satellite a day matters only if launch capacity, customer demand and service adoption keep pace. Owning production, constellation operations and the data platform improves control over deployment and product feedback, but concentrates execution risk: the capital must translate into reliable orbital capacity that governments and enterprises use repeatedly.
