retoflow, a Kassel Fraunhofer spin-out building digital twins for electricity, gas and heat networks, has received an undisclosed seven-figure investment from BMH through HessenFonds Beteiligungen. The company says the funding will support product development and sales as it helps municipal utilities combine network data, simulate scenarios and identify bottlenecks and investment needs.
Network planning improves when fragmented data becomes one model
Municipal utilities often plan electricity, gas and heat networks in separate tools, even as electrification makes their investment choices increasingly connected. retoflow's digital twins bring those datasets into a shared model, letting planners test scenarios before committing capital. The immediate customer value is a clearer view of where capacity constraints will emerge and which upgrades should come first.
The commercial challenge is data preparation and trust. A simulation is only useful when legacy records are consistent enough to represent the real network and utility teams can explain its outputs. Product development can reduce that integration burden, while sales investment must turn bespoke planning projects into repeatable deployments across more municipal operators.
