$2.2m · Pre-Seed · Deeptech · Karlsruhe, Germany
RhymeQ, a quantum software startup building a Python-based programming layer, has raised $2.2m in pre-seed funding, led by Ground State Ventures with participation from Vanagon Ventures, Plug and Play and Freiraum Ventures. The company says the capital will grow its engineering team, build an enterprise platform and support a global developer community.
Making quantum hardware usable through familiar tools
RhymeQ's product, Rhyme, is an abstraction layer for writing quantum programs in Python. According to the company, its compiler handles the translation into code that can run through NVIDIA CUDA-Q on GPU-accelerated simulators and quantum processors from several hardware providers. The aim is to let conventional software developers build and debug hybrid quantum-classical applications without working directly at the circuit level.
The commercial premise is that a common developer layer can sit above a fragmented hardware market. If Rhyme can keep applications portable as processors and software libraries evolve, enterprises can test quantum workflows without committing their development process to a single machine. Hardware vendors, meanwhile, gain a larger pool of developers who can reach their systems. That two-sided position could make integrations more valuable over time, but it also leaves RhymeQ dependent on maintaining compatibility across fast-changing platforms.
The next test is adoption beyond the launch
RhymeQ came out of stealth at NVIDIA GTC Berlin and began giving the first waitlisted developers free access to the compiler and its community. The company also plans to work with quantum hardware makers to integrate their software libraries. Those steps matter because the product's value will be demonstrated through usable workloads, reliable debugging and repeatable execution across machines, rather than through the abstraction claim alone.
Founder and CEO Daniel Volz previously led quantum-computing initiatives at McKinsey and BASF and co-founded Kipu Quantum. CTO Tamás Varga, who invented Rhyme, spent more than 15 years as a software engineer at Swiss Re and UBS, while COO Christina Wu completes the founding team. The combination gives RhymeQ experience in both enterprise software and quantum deployment, although commercial uptake remains to be proven.
