€1.1m · Seed · Cleantech · Porto, Portugal
Porto-based Seamoretech has secured a €1.1m first close of its Seed round from Rypples, 7Seas Capital and Crédito Agrícola. EU-Startups reports that the company will use the funding to scale its technology, accelerate market entry and expand into Spain.
The €1.1m is the first close of the current Seed round. Seamoretech says it has raised €3m in total when earlier investment is included.
Making desalination waste carry two revenue streams
Seamoretech develops systems that treat the concentrated brine left after desalination. Its process is designed to recover more freshwater while separating minerals that can be sold into industrial supply chains, moving plants towards zero-liquid discharge. The company is targeting integration with existing desalination infrastructure rather than asking customers to replace the core plant.
That creates a two-sided economic case. A plant can reduce the cost and environmental impact of discharging brine, while recovered water and materials may add value. The commercial constraint is whether the combined output covers the energy, maintenance and separation costs at operating scale. Mineral composition varies by site, so repeatable deployment and dependable output quality matter as much as laboratory recovery rates.
Existing plants are the route to market
Founded in 2021 as a spin-out from the University of Porto’s engineering faculty, Seamoretech is moving from technical development towards market entry. The first close brings investors spanning ocean and climate technology together with a Portuguese bank. Scaling through existing plants could shorten adoption compared with building new desalination capacity, but each integration still has to prove that the recovered water and minerals meet customer specifications. The Spanish expansion will test whether the system can be deployed across different plant conditions and buyer networks.
