Munich-based Regulate Breathwork has secured an undisclosed investment from big-wave surfer and world-record holder Sebastian Steudtner, according to deutsche-startups.de. The investment accompanies a product partnership: Regulate’s current site features Steudtner’s guided sessions, while Gründerszene’s announcement summary says the collaboration adds four breathing sessions for focus, balance and calm.
Regulate packages guided breathwork into short interventions designed for the working day. The company says its app offers more than 70 sessions, typically lasting three to five minutes, and can connect to a wearable so users can see their heart-rate response. It also sells workshops, pilots and company-wide rollouts, giving employers aggregated usage and impact reporting rather than access to individual data, according to Munich Startup’s May profile.
Athlete protocols turn content into a distribution channel
The Steudtner partnership adds more than a familiar name. It gives Regulate a concrete performance setting around which to package breathing protocols: preparing for intense moments, recovering after them and building repeatable routines. That makes the product easier to understand than a broad wellbeing promise, while giving the company athlete-led content that can attract individual users and support conversations with workplace buyers.
The commercial test is whether that attention converts into sustained use. Regulate says more than 7,000 professionals use the app, and its website presents enterprise programmes for teams of 10 to 500. An athlete partnership can strengthen acquisition and credibility, but the employer proposition still depends on engagement between high-pressure moments and evidence that short sessions become part of a normal workday.
Regulate was founded in 2024 by Peter van Woerkum and Paul Laechelin. In May, the company raised a €1.4m Seed round led by 4impact.vc, with business angels including Hanno Renner, Mike Wax, Marlena Hien and Felix Haas. At the time, the company said users had completed more than 50,000 sessions and named Personio, Vattenfall and Raiffeisen Bank International among its customers.
