SEK 8m · Other round · AI · Stockholm, Sweden
Stockholm-based Sortrace has raised SEK 8m in its first external funding round, with Almi Invest, Gorilla Capital, Antler and angel investors participating. The financing will support commercial expansion, product development and customer growth across municipalities and recycling operators.
Waste collection becomes a data source
Sortrace mounts cameras and sensors on collection vehicles to create a visual record of each pickup. Its computer-vision software identifies contamination and incorrectly sorted material at bin and route level, then presents the results in dashboards that municipal waste teams can use to target feedback, enforcement and operational changes.
The commercial case rests on turning a routine collection process into continuous measurement. Municipalities otherwise rely on manual sampling and broad campaigns, which makes it difficult to identify where material is being lost. Sortrace can sell monitoring software around an existing vehicle workflow while giving customers evidence to focus interventions on the routes and waste fractions with the largest problems.
Five municipal customers provide an early test
The company says it has five paying Swedish municipalities under contract after launching its product in 2025. The next execution challenge is to prove that the system can operate reliably across different fleets, collection conditions and recycling regimes while producing changes that customers can measure.
