€20m · Other round · Semiconductors · Vaassen, Netherlands
Tempress, a Vaassen-based supplier of semiconductor thermal-processing equipment, has secured a €20m investment from Jolt Capital alongside an agreement to acquire SPT Microtechnologies USA. The company says Jolt is taking a leading stake, while Innovation Industries remains among its shareholders. The capital will support Tempress’s growth and the SPT-USA transaction.
Buying complementary capacity, not just adding capital
Tempress builds vertical and horizontal furnace systems used for diffusion, deposition, oxidation and annealing. Those high-temperature processes change or coat semiconductor materials and support applications including power semiconductors, silicon carbide, photonics and MEMS. The company says its systems are sold to semiconductor fabs and major R&D centres worldwide.
SPT-USA adds another vertical-furnace portfolio, engineering teams and customer relationships, together with subsidiaries in Germany and Taiwan. Tempress and the seller describe the product ranges as complementary rather than overlapping. For a capital-equipment supplier, that matters commercially: acquiring an installed base and service footprint can broaden the processes and regions it can support faster than developing every tool and customer relationship internally.
The combination still has to work operationally. Tempress says it intends to maintain continuity while integrating SPT-USA and pursuing synergies in technology development, manufacturing efficiency and global service. Customers buying production equipment depend on process stability and long-term support, so preserving those relationships is as important as expanding the catalogue.
A long-standing platform enters a new ownership phase
Tempress traces almost 60 years of operating history. Jolt describes the deal as the first investment from Jolt Capital V and its first transaction in the Netherlands, framing Tempress as a platform for further semiconductor-equipment consolidation. The acquisition is the first concrete step in that strategy rather than a general promise to pursue scale.
The announcements do not disclose the SPT-USA purchase price or a completion timetable. SPP Technologies says it has decided to transfer all shares and expects the business and its subsidiaries to join the Tempress group, while the parties will cooperate on the transition. The next evidence point is therefore completion and integration: whether the combined group can retain service continuity while translating a wider product portfolio and international footprint into additional customer work.
