TURN2X, the Munich-based developer of modular e-methane plants, has raised €20m in Series A equity funding. Antwerpen Ventures led the round, with LEA Partners, First Momentum Ventures and Verve Ventures participating alongside industry angels. According to the participating investors, the capital will support commercial plant rollouts in Spain and other markets while helping the company lower production costs.
From a working plant to a repeatable project model
TURN2X combines green hydrogen with biogenic carbon dioxide to make e-methane, a synthetic substitute for fossil natural gas. Because the finished molecule can use existing gas pipelines, storage and industrial equipment, customers can replace part of their fossil-gas consumption without rebuilding their downstream infrastructure. The model targets energy users that are difficult to electrify directly and need a storable molecule rather than only power from the grid.
The company has already moved beyond a laboratory or demonstration-only proposition. Its plant in Miajadas, Spain, is operating with Siemens automation and digital-twin technology, and TURN2X and its partners say the output is certified and fully contracted under long-term offtake agreements. Siemens says the facility was commissioned in six months. That operating reference gives the Series A a specific job: turn one proven site into a repeatable development and operating model.
TURN2X says its patented methanation reactor can adjust quickly to variable renewable-power input. Its planned 9 MW modular units are designed to buy electricity when it is abundant and cheaper, then convert it into a gas that can be stored and transported through infrastructure customers already use. Commercially, that flexibility matters because electricity is the plant's largest input; the ability to shift production affects the cost of each unit of e-methane. Standardised modules and remote operation may also shorten deployment, but the economics still depend on securing suitable power, biogenic CO₂, permits and long-term buyers at each site.
The next projects will test whether that formula travels. A separate 9 MW TURN2X project in Spain was invited to begin grant-agreement preparation after the European Hydrogen Bank's 2026 auction, at a bid price of €0.62 per kilogram of renewable hydrogen. That is not the same as a completed grant, but it provides a concrete development milestone. The Series A adds corporate capital for a wider rollout, while contracted demand and project-level support can help individual plants become financeable.
