Undisclosed · Growth/Late · Software · Copenhagen, Denmark
Copenhagen-based Factbird, which sells manufacturing-intelligence software and connected shop-floor hardware, has agreed an undisclosed strategic majority investment from Verdane. Existing investors Expedition Growth Capital and EIFO are reinvesting alongside the growth-buyout firm. The parties said the transaction remains subject to customary regulatory approvals and closing conditions where applicable.
Expedition's dated announcement describes the deal as the next step after its initial 2023 investment partnership. Factbird said the new backing will support further product development and market expansion; no purchase price, primary-capital amount or split between growth capital and shareholder liquidity was disclosed.
Scaling factory software without replacing the factory
Factbird is built for manufacturers that need better production data but cannot replace every machine or install a large control-system project. Its platform combines plug-and-play edge devices and sensors with recurring software that collects data from production lines, identifies downtime and bottlenecks, and connects with ERP, MES, business-intelligence and data-lake systems. The product suite covers production monitoring, digital operations and workforce training.
That hardware-enabled entry point shapes the commercial model. A manufacturer can begin with a limited set of lines, measure whether visibility changes output or waste, and then extend the same software across more processes and sites. Factbird says more than 300 customers use the platform, with deployments in 40 countries, and reports an average 19% productivity increase within three months. Those are company claims, but they describe the metric Verdane must now turn into repeatable expansion: faster customer payback should make additional line and factory rollouts easier to justify.
The majority structure also changes the ownership context. Verdane is taking control while Expedition and EIFO remain invested, combining a new lead owner with investors that already know the deployment model. Verdane said it plans to help broaden Factbird's product and market presence. The execution test is whether the company can standardise onboarding and integrations across varied factory estates without allowing hardware installation and customer-specific work to grow as quickly as recurring software revenue.
Factbird began as a production-tracking project inside Emendo Consulting Group and became an independent company in 2021. The company reported more than €5m in annual recurring revenue in May 2024, after a $16m investment from Expedition and EIFO in 2023. The new transaction is therefore a control investment into an established industrial-software business rather than a first institutional round; until approvals and closing conditions are satisfied, it should be read as an announced deal rather than a completed change of ownership.
