DKK 25m · Seed · Cleantech · Denmark
Visibuilt, a Danish biotechnology company developing lower-carbon binders for construction materials, has raised DKK 25m in seed funding. EIFO and Unconventional Ventures co-led the round, with Proptechfonden joining as a new investor and existing backer EMDFonden participating again.
The company's visiBINDER uses mycelium, the root structure of fungi, as a bio-based alternative to fossil-derived binders used in paving and infrastructure. The financing will support larger-scale validation, production-design trials with industry partners, and technical and commercial hiring.
Moving a material from lab performance to infrastructure use
A construction binder has to do more than show a lower carbon footprint in laboratory tests. It must meet durability and performance requirements outdoors, fit established production processes, and be available at a price and volume that make sense for infrastructure customers. Visibuilt is using the seed round to address that path to adoption through larger trials and a production setup designed for scale.
Visibuilt says it has active testing relationships with a Danish concrete paver manufacturer and Copenhagen Municipality. Unconventional Ventures describes a royalty model in which each tonne of visiBINDER used displaces fossil binder and generates revenue. If the material clears validation, that model could let Visibuilt scale through industrial partners rather than owning every production asset itself.
