£2.7m · Other round · Cybersecurity · Leeds, UK
Leeds-based Xentra has secured £2.7m in growth capital from the Maven VCTs and NPIF II – Maven Equity Finance, both managed by Maven Capital Partners. Maven said the investment had completed on 20 July. The company will use the capital to strengthen its senior leadership, expand sales and customer acquisition, develop its customer portal and broaden its STAX product range.
Bundling software with an ongoing security service
Xentra sells subscription-based cybersecurity, safeguarding and compliance services to SMEs and education organisations. Its STAX packages combine selected security products with assessment, implementation and managed support, while the customer portal gives organisations one place to oversee the service. The company’s published offer spans tools including impersonation protection, endpoint security, managed security operations and extended detection and response; its education packages also cover web filtering, cloud-file analysis and human moderation.
The commercial problem is not simply access to security software. Smaller organisations can face the same phishing, ransomware, compliance and safeguarding demands as larger enterprises without maintaining a large internal security team. Xentra positions itself between vendors and customers: it evaluates technologies, configures them around the organisation and remains involved after procurement. That turns a collection of point products into a recurring service relationship, but it also makes the quality of advice and support part of what customers are buying.
Maven says Xentra now supports more than 90 customers, including Leeds United Football Club, Leeds Bradford Airport, Vista Technology Support, JT Atkinson and Shaw Education Trust. The investor also reports that annual recurring revenue quadrupled over the previous two years. Those are company and investor figures, but they explain why the funding is aimed at both acquiring customers and expanding revenue within the existing base.
Growth depends on making delivery repeatable
Adding portal capabilities and modular STAX packages could help Xentra reuse more of its implementation work across customers while still tailoring the final configuration. It also creates a route to add services as a customer’s security or compliance needs change. The trade-off is operational: every new vendor integration, regulatory requirement and customer environment adds work that software alone cannot absorb.
The £2.7m investment therefore funds both distribution and delivery capacity. Xentra plans to build its leadership, sales and customer-success functions alongside the product. The useful test will be whether the company can keep service quality and response standards consistent while customer numbers and recurring revenue grow, rather than allowing managed-service headcount to rise in step with every new account.
