£10m · Seed · Deeptech · London, UK
London-based StandardX has raised £10m in seed funding co-led by Vsquared Ventures and East X Ventures. Firstminute capital, the UK Innovation and Science Seed Fund, Brevan Howard Macro Venture and Geometry also participated.
Founded by nuclear engineers Richard Pearson and Ross Allen, StandardX is building an accelerator-based refinery intended to produce multiple rare isotopes from a common industrial platform. The company will use the financing to hire its team, secure a first industrial site in London and build its initial system. It plans to supply medical isotopes to a research partner in 2027 and target industrial-scale production from 2029.
Treating isotope supply as industrial infrastructure
Medical isotopes support cancer diagnosis and targeted treatments, but supply can depend on ageing reactors or facilities configured for a narrow product. StandardX is betting that a flexible accelerator platform can produce different isotopes closer to demand and reduce single points of failure.
The seed round funds a capital-intensive path before industrial revenue. The 2027 pilot will need to demonstrate repeatable production, purity and distribution for regulated medical use. If that works, the same platform could later address other scarce materials, including isotopes required for fusion research.
