$14m · Series B · Semiconductors · Linköping, Sweden
SweGaN, a Linköping-based developer and manufacturer of gallium nitride on silicon carbide (GaN-on-SiC) epitaxial wafers, has raised $14m in Series B financing. The company said Thisbe AB, North Ventures and existing shareholders led the round. The proceeds will expand production capacity and the company’s commercial presence, fund talent and infrastructure, and accelerate R&D for its next generation of GaN-on-SiC materials.
SweGaN described the financing as an up-round and said it brings total funding raised to $41m.
Qualification turns material performance into orders
SweGaN supplies the epitaxial wafer layer on which semiconductor manufacturers build radio-frequency and power devices. Its materials target applications including telecom infrastructure, satellite communications, defence radar and power conversion for data centres. That upstream position makes customer qualification central: a material supplier must prove consistent performance inside a customer’s device and manufacturing process before production volumes can follow.
The company had already reported SEK 25m of new framework agreements during the first four months of 2026, spanning customers in Europe, Asia and the US. SweGaN said those orders, expected to contribute revenue over six to 18 months, covered power devices for data centres and RF devices for defence, aerospace and telecommunications. The Series B therefore connects two execution tasks: adding enough capacity to serve qualified demand while continuing materials development for the next design cycles.
That sequencing matters commercially. More equipment and output only create value if qualification milestones convert into repeat orders; equally, insufficient capacity can make a specialist supplier harder to adopt when customers need reliable volumes. SweGaN’s plan to fund production, commercial reach and R&D together is designed to address both sides of that constraint, although the company has not disclosed individual customers or contracted volumes beyond the April framework-agreement total.
From university spin-out to manufacturing scale
Founded in 2014 as a spin-out from Linköping University research, SweGaN launched its QuanFINE buffer-free GaN-on-SiC platform in 2018 and put a new Linköping manufacturing facility into operation in 2024. The company says its materials serve customers across telecommunications, defence, aerospace and industrial markets. North Ventures framed the investment as backing a European supplier in a strategically important semiconductor market; the operating test is now whether SweGaN can turn its qualification progress and new capacity into durable global programmes.
